10th July, 2025 saw a flurry of activities at the Gayathri Parishath Hall in Bengaluru. The Alter was being prepared for the Guru-Parampara Pooja. The statues of Ma Saraswati and Adi Shankaracharya were garlanded. Pictures of Gurus starting with the ancient Maharishi Ved Vyas & Shankaracharya to our guru’s Guru – Poojya Swami Dayanand Saraswati ji were placed and decorated with garlands and flowers. Pooja items were laid out. Different types of Prasada awaited their turn to be included in the pooja. The event was GURU POORNIMA – the most auspicious day in a shishya’s life!
Our Guru, Poojya Swami Shivaprakashananda Saraswati ji, arrived and the program started sharp at 10:00 a.m. with the chanting of Guru Shloka prayer by Swamiji and the devotees. The pooja began with the nirvighna Ganesha Pooja followed by the Guru-Parampara Pooja performed by Swamiji. Next was Ashirvachanam by Swamiji where he spoke about the importance of Guru-Shishya Parampara and why it needs to be followed. He highlighted the point that only the knowledge received from an Aacharya fructifies. ‘Adhyatma Gyan’ or ‘Atma Gyan’ can be obtained only by serving and learning at the feet of a living guru. And the living guru is a gift of the Guru-Shishya Parampara!
Thereafter the temple priests showed their reverence to Swamiji by offering him kumkum, Tulsi garland and fruits. They spoke about his austere life style and his mission of spreading Vedantic knowledge for the benifit of the people. A devotee urged the gathering to come together to build an Ashram for Swamiji.
Then came the most awaited moment of showing gratitude to the Guru through “Paada Pooja” by shishyas. Devotees made offerings to the Guru and sought his blessings which were showered upon them abundantly!
The event had a festive feel with a good gathering of 40-50 people in different age groups! The program concluded with the distribution of Prasada.
